It is the last night of Chanukkah, and the eight candles are burning brightly, chasing away the dark. We are all taught that this holiday celebrates the miracle of one day’s worth of oil burning for eight days, the time it would take for the Israelites to turn olives into sacred oil. This is part of the story.
There is a deeper meaning that seems relevant today. The Jewish Israelites (around 167 BCE) were told to assimilate or die. To leave behind their beliefs and practices, and to embrace the gods of Greece, or be wiped out. Chanukkah, which means dedication, challenges each of us to stand up for our beliefs, even in the face of criticism or restraints. Or seductive invitations that are misaligned with our values.
We call Chanukkah the celebration of light because of the story of the oil and the candles. However, this holiday reminds us that the light is within, filling us with the courage to stand up in the face of adversity. And, like the burning flames of the candles, our inner light can shine bright enough to heal the darkness and fear around us.
May you be blessed with the light of peace and joy.

Blessings to you!
Thank you for sharing the meaning of this Holy Holiday.
