This week in the world around me, I have seen despair turn into hope, fear turn into courage, and grief usher in love. Perhaps that is one of the gifts of Shabbat, the knowledge that dichotomies are always dancing together.
Often, our minds quit before our bodies. We believe that we will never stop crying, will never be able to face the challenges before us, and have lost our way. Our thoughts see the disaster and ignore the possibility.
Just when we feel ready to give up, or when we are too weary to take one more step, the landscape shifts around us. We take a deep breath, find the inner strength, and move forward. We are stronger than we know, and more resilient than we believe possible.
And sometimes, something that seems terrible becomes a gift in disguise. This week, I hope all your worries turn into blessings, and all your pain turns into joy.
